Psychotherapy and Counselling


If you are having problems or distress, it can help to talk to someone. You may be worried or finding it difficult to cope, or you may have a decision to make, or a new direction to find or pursue. There are many varied reasons why people come to counselling. I offer short term or time limited counselling which usually takes place over 6 – 12 sessions. We would agree a goal to work towards, and address it in a focussed way. It is an opportunity for you to explore the problem and gain better self-understanding and work towards your desired change.

Whilst my approach is as a psychodynamic counsellor, I adapt my working style to be suited to the context and to you and what you are hoping for. Sometimes I also bring my experience of a broader training in counselling models, integrating for instance, psychodynamic counselling with client-centred counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), as well as a more solution oriented approach from my life coaching and business coaching trainings and experience.

It is possible that having completed the sessions you may decide to explore the issues in greater depth and have longer term counselling or psychotherapy.

I offer longer term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals. You may have long-standing anxiety or depression, or relationship difficulties, or you may have a deep sense that things are not quite right. You may have experience of early loss, trauma or abuse. Or you may not have a specific experience to point to, but have an ongoing or recurring sense of struggling emotionally with life’s challenges. 

Sometimes at the heart of our experience are patterns of thinking and relating to others that we have developed in the past. Together we would work to deepen your understanding of the emotional patterns that have an influence now on how you feel and react to people and events in your everyday life. Understanding this can lead you to feel stronger emotionally and help you develop your own choices and way forward.

This psychoanalytic psychotherapy approach is suitable for those who may gain relief through in-depth self exploration and understanding or who are interested in such a journey.

Therapy can be a journey to reconnect with something more creative, more authentic within ourselves, and fosters a relationship of self-acceptance, discovering what you most long for and the fear that is in the way.

Some people find it beneficial to work more intensively and come more than once a week.
